The M.S. in Business Analytics (one year and 30 credits) provides students with the knowledge and essential skills needed to respond to the new challenges characteristic of the data intensive, decision-making environments in the world today.

M.S. in Business Analytics

The M.S. in Business Analytics program prepares students with the skills to understand, analyze, and integrate data in business functions:

  • Master cutting-edge analytical modeling
  • Perform statistical analysis
  • Excel at data management techniques
  • Understand emerging concepts, practices, and techniques in handling big data
  • Utilize data modeling and analysis to identify patterns
  • Apply skills to real-world problems in specific business domains


The curriculum offers a balance between foundational business concepts with skills in analytical and statistical modeling and data management. The curriculum includes three parts: a business core, an analytics core that in­cludes both modeling and data management courses, and a domain-focused application core that includes project-based courses that allow students to apply their skills to real world problems in specific domains.

Corporate Partnerships Foster Real-World Problem Solving

This program is designed to provide hands-on experience through real-world problem solving. Academic partnerships with IBM and SAS will allow students to access a suite of software tools from these firms. Students will be able to use these software plat­forms in their courses to gain practical experience. Real-world data sets will also be used.

Typical Master’s Course Sequence

Business Core Courses

Three (3) required courses:

  • Statistics and Operations Management I
  • Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management
  • Information Systems for Management
Analytics Core Courses
Domain-Focused Electives

Three (3) required courses:

  • Technology Fundamentals for Analytics
  • Predictive Analytics Using Social Media
  • Analytics Capstone (Spring)

    Plus, two (2) courses from the following:
  • Optimization, Algorithms, and Applications
  • Introduction to Neural Networks
  • Knowledge Discovery with Data Mining
  • Data Resource Management

Choose two (2) courses from the following:

  • Marketing Research
  • Internet Marketing
  • Marketing Analytics
  • Risk Management
  • Financial Econometrics Modeling
  • Supply Chain Analytics
