Doctoral Program
The Lally School of Management and Technology offers a Doctor of Philosophy program in management and technology.
The mission of the Ph.D. program in Management at the Lally School is to train students to become scholars that are highly skilled in conducting research and teaching and for careers where high level of research skills and analytical capabilities are required.
The program, within each discipline, provides a thorough understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and their applications along with an ability to think in a systematic way and apply quantitative techniques to business related problems.
This is made possible through formal courses, seminars, independent studies, examinations, written papers, workshops, presentations and the dissertation.
This research-based program provides a Ph.D. in the following broad areas: finance and accounting*, information systems, organization behavior, strategic management, and marketing and operations management.
Students must earn at least 90 credits to graduate. Forty-five of those credits can be derived from a master's or an MBA degree. The program usually requires a minimum of four years to complete.
Graduate students have access to a full-range of academic resources and support services including learning and career development assistance, legal services, health services, a fitness center, child care services, a graduate council, and married-student organizations.
In addition, Rensselaer provides both graduate and family housing as well as assistance with locating appropriate off-campus housing.
*Please note: The Rensselaer Lally School will not be accepting students into the finance and accounting Ph.D. areas for the 2013-2014 academic year.
