Constructing and Managing an Efficient Investment Portfolio

This discussion will focus on how an individual or Pension Fund should construct and manage an efficient investment portfolio. We will look closely at stock and bond investing and then look at how to properly allocate between these assets and cash. In addition, we will discuss indexing versus passive management and how to avoid fees paid in the investment process. Current issues including QE and the risks of investing in Euro products will also be discussed if time permits.
Speaker’s Bio: Tom McLaughlin recently retired as a managing director at Goldman Sachs after 20 years working on the equity trading floor. Tom started at Goldman in equity derivatives sales and for the last 10 years led a team of 10 people that covered Canada for all equity products. He also ran the firm’s Latin American equity business from 2004-2007. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Tom sold engineering software for Auto-trol Technology. He graduated from Rensselaer in 1986 with a B.S. in industrial engineering and also received his MBA from the Rensselaer Lally School of Management in 1987. He currently is a member of the Lally School Advisory Council.
