Research and Publications

Professor Zhao’s primary research interests include entrepreneurship, recruitment and selection, and leadership. He is especially interested in studying individual-level factors that encourage people to become entrepreneurs and succeed, such as self-efficacy, personalities, personal values, emotions, and entrepreneurship education/training. His work has been published or is forthcoming in Journal of Applied Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, and Journal of Managerial Psychology. He has presented many papers in national academic conferences, and has served as reviewer, facilitator, and discussant in those conferences.

Professor Zhao’s has earned many awards and honors including the Best Paper Proceedings of the Academy of Management conference in 2004, the Best Doctoral Student Paper Award in the Southern Management Association conference in 2004, and the Academy of Management HR Division/SHRM Dissertation Grant Award in 2005. Recently, he won the 2006 JSBM Editor’s Choice/Office Depot Small Business Management Best Paper Award in the Academy of Management conference.
