infocusart500.gifICE in Focus is the Introduction to Rensselaer’s Corporate ICE Program

The ICE in Focus modules are two-day short courses that introduce Rensselaer’s Innovation and Corporate Entrepreneurship (ICE) program.  The ICE in Focus sessions target individual topic areas of learning around organizational structure, building teams, and functional responsibilities specific to innovation platforms and mandates for organizations.

Rensselaer’s Innovation and Corporate Entrepreneurship (ICE) is an in-depth corporate engagement that progressively and systematically enables organizations to build a disciplined approach to innovation, driving organic growth and corporate renewal.  Participation in ICE  links leadership and project management in the innovation process through the implementation of structural, organizational, and management frameworks for new business creation. The ICE instructional model focuses on strategic clarity and uncertainty reduction during project discovery and incubation, and transition into the new product development process.

Executive Overview

To be sustained, innovation must become a function in companies, which requires senior leadership to establish a distinct management system around innovation. Participants diagnose the maturity levels of their present innovation systems and their company’s current capacity for innovation, and develop an agenda for progress.

Project Management Tools for Innovation

Innovation portfolio leaders must understand how projects that face high levels of ambiguity on many dimensions are managed. Traditional project management tools (Gantt charts, work breakdown structures, etc) are not tuned to the world of high uncertainty. Participants are introduced to

  • the learning plan and other project management tools;
  • the transition management tool,  useful for managing the project’s move from incubation into a line of business.

For each of these, strategic coaching is required on the part of the innovation staff. Participants will learn and role-play strategic coaching in a learning plan environment.
